 The 28th annual Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts
gets underway Thursday Aug. 11th and continues through Sunday.  Thirty Canadian writers will speak over the course of the 4 day event.  It takes place at the Rockwood Centre in Sechelt.  For complete details look for the pull-out section in the current edition of the Coast Reporter, visit the website writers festival.ca  or stop in at the Festival box office located on the Rockwood grounds

The 23rd annual Hackett Park Summer Arts and Crafts Fair is Saturday August the 14th from 10am to 5pm-- and Sunday the 15th from 10 am to 4pm.  It’s one of the largest juried arts and crafts sales in BC 
Live entertainment,  food concessions and children’s activities.  The admission charge is three dollars.


Don’t forget about the Sechelt Thursday Night Market.  It’s on from 5 to 9pm on Cowrie Street between Inlet and Trail.  Many of the stores and restaurants are open, and there are other vendors and entertainment as well. 

The Sunshine Coast Chapter of the Royal Astronomical Society presents it’s 6th annual Astronomy in the Park event at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, Saturday (August 14th)
It’s a free, family event, beginning at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, running to 11pm.  There will be club telescopes and astronomical displays, children’s activities, and prizes as well.


Stop the Davis Bay SeaWall Changes –  Signatures are being collected  from residents & tourists to stop the proposed changes to the highway that runs beside this popular area.  This beautiful jewel in Davis Bay is going to lose parking spots, greenery & benches will be removed, not to mention the safety hazard for everyone if the road is moved closer to the seawall.  The petition can be signed at a table set up near the wharf in Davis Bay & also at Pier 17 across the road.
